Haydenville- Today, State Senator Benjamin B. Downing (D-Pittsfield) announces that the Country Dance and Song Society in Haydenville is the recipient of a $12,000 grant from Massachusetts Cultural Council’s (MCC) Organizational Support program. This grant will be equally dispersed over three consecutive fiscal years.
“It’s great that we have a cultural organization that focuses on preserving and passing-on dance and song traditions for generations of enjoyment,” stated Downing. “With support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Country Dance and Song Society will be able to expand their scholarship and educational programs in communities throughout the Commonwealth.”
The Country Dance and Song Society (CDSS) is a national organization dedicated to building and supporting communities which preserve and promote traditional and historical folk music, dance and song.
In Massachusetts, the CDSS is headquartered in Haydenville and provides a network of support for small local traditional dance and song groups through its participatory educational programs, newsletters, community outreach, retail sales and membership services.
The Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Organizational Support (OS) program provides three-year matching grants to organizations for the development of a thriving cultural economy. These grants help to stimulate private and foundation investments and provide stability to organizations that other targeted grants cannot provide as OS dollars can be applied to any aspect of operation- from paying heating and cooling costs to hiring employees.
The next deadline to apply for OS grant funding is March 1, 2008. To learn more about MCC’s grant opportunities or to download an application, please visit them online at www.massculturalcouncil.org.
