Arts|Learning has named State Senator Benjamin B. Downing of Pittsfield a winner of its Legislative Leadership Award for his strong support of the arts and culture. The award will be presented to him at a private ceremony in June.
As vice-chairman of the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts and Cultural Development, Downing has been an avid advocate of arts and culture, which in turn support the state’s economic development.
Downing also is Senate chairman of the Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy and chairman of the Senate Committee on Bills in Third Reading. A Democrat, he was elected to the Senate in 2006 and represents 52 communities in Western Massachusetts – the largest geographic Senate district in the commonwealth.
