Boston – Governor Deval Patrick held a bill signing ceremony in his State House office this afternoon to officially stamp his approval on H. 3638, An Act naming a certain bridge in the town of Dalton.
The Governor invited bill sponsors State Senator Benjamin B. Downing (D- Pittsfield) and State Representative Paul W. Mark (D- Peru), as well as members of the Casey family from Berkshire County to attend the signing ceremony.
“I am proud to have played a part in honoring Lt. Casey’s heroic service in Vietnam by securing timely passage of this legislation,” said Downing. “I look forward to Dalton’s upcoming celebration over Memorial Day weekend when the community officially designates the bridge in his memory.”
H. 3638 designates the bridge spanning the Housatonic River on Route 8 between the towns of Dalton and Hinsdale, in memory of 2nd Lt. Michael J. Casey, Sr. Lt. Casey was a Dalton native who bravely served in the United States Marine Corps. He was killed in action in Vietnam in 1968.
H. 3638 was filed at the request of local officials by Mark and Downing this legislative session; the bill was endorsed by the Joint Committee on Transportation before it was enacted by the House of Representatives on March 28th, followed by the Senate on March 29th.
