Senate approves petition dedicated local bridge in memory of Dalton's Lt. Michael J. Casey, Sr.
March 26, 2012

Boston – Today, under the leadership of State Senator Benjamin B. Downing (D- Pittsfield), the Massachusetts Senate gave preliminary approval to H. 3638, An Act naming a certain bridge in the town of Dalton.
H. 3638 designates the bridge spanning the Housatonic River on Route 8 between the towns of Dalton and Hinsdale, in memory of 2nd Lt. Michael J. Casey, Sr. Lt. Casey was a Dalton native who bravely served in the United States Marine Corps. He was killed in action in Vietnam in 1968. 
The bill enjoys the support of the Dalton Select Board and Veterans’ Agent, as well as Casey’s family members still living in the area and local veterans groups. It was filed at the request of local officials by State Representative Paul W. Mark (D- Peru) and Downing; Mark secured House approval of the bill on March 22nd.
The legislation must obtain final enactment by both the House of Representatives and the Senate before it can be forwarded to the Governor for his review and approval.
