State Senator Benjamin B. Downing (D-Pittsfield), co-chairman of the Joint Committee on Public Service, has joined more than 50 of his legislative colleagues this week in sponsoring a Resolution honoring the work of public employees and commemorating the week of May 7-13, 2007, which is nationally recognized as “Public Service Recognition Week.”
“Public service employees in all levels of government perform fundamental roles in our society,” remarks Downing. “Where would we be without public works professionals, police and firefighters, teachers, librarians, environmental specialists, social service professionals - the list goes on and on. This week I am proud to honor those men and women who apply their energy, talent and passion to improving the quality of life in Massachusetts for all its citizens.”
Public Service Recognition Week, celebrated the first Monday through Sunday in May since 1985, is a time set aside each year to honor the men and women who serve America as federal, state and local government employees. This event is organized by the Public Employees Roundtable at the Council for Excellence in Government.
