Pittsfield- Local humanities projects provide historical, cultural and ethical perspectives on issues of interest. Senator Benjamin B. Downing (D-Pittsfield) today announces two grants totaling $11,631 for projects run by local cultural organizations. The Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanities is awarding the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield and Double Edge Theatre Productions in Ashfield for their insightful programs.
“In today’s social climate, there is a great need to engage our communities in honest dialog about basic principals and purpose,” states Downing. “These two organizations deserve support and recognition for the scope of their thought provoking programs.”
Berkshire Museum, Pittsfield
$5,000 has been awarded to the Berkshire Museum to help fund their “imaginASIA” project which includes an exhibition, lectures, and other events that will highlight the connection between Eastern and Western cultures through its combination of Asian artifacts and Dutch masterpieces.
Double Edge Theater Productions, Ashfield
Utilizing the $6,631 grant funding, the Double Edge Theater Productions will launch “Art as Healer and Provocateur.” This mélange of performance and discussion will explore how art is created amidst gross human rights violations. An art exhibit of the work of Mira Zelechower will also be on display.
