Pittsfield - State Senator Benjamin B. Downing (D – Pittsfield) is pleased to host an art exhibition by 8th grade students at the Berkshire Arts and Technology Charter School (BArT). The students will serve as Downing’s featured artists in his district office during the months of March, April and May as participants of his Local Artist Exhibition Program.
The students’ abstracted watercolor paintings explore line and color relationships, and were inspired by images of nature, sculpture and personal photographs. The Senator’s district office, located at 7 North Street, Suite 307 in Pittsfield, is open Monday - Friday during normal business hours; all are welcome to visit to enjoy the exhibition.
Located in Adams, BArT prepares students for college by promoting mastery of academic skills and content through the integration of the arts and technology in core subjects. The school provides middle and high school students in northern Berkshire County with an educational community that regards everyone, including teachers and parents, as lifelong learners.
Since May 2007, Senator Downing's Local Artist Exhibition Program has offered artists from the 48 communities in the Berkshire, Hampshire and Franklin District two additional venues to display their work: his Pittsfield and State House offices. The Senator’s State House office is decorated with the works of Berkshire County artist and sculptor John Stritch.
Artists with a tie to the Senator’s district interested in his Artist Exhibition Program should contact Allison Johnson Krol at (413) 442-4008. Current and past participants are highlighted on the Senator’s website, www.SenatorDowning.com.
