Boston- State Senator Benjamin B. Downing (D-Pittsfield) announces today his appointment by Senate President Robert E. Travaglini to the Agriculture, Environment and Energy Committee for the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) for 2007-2008.
“I am excited about this opportunity to engage in progressive policy discussions on some of the nation’s most challenging issues,” explains Downing. “I look forward to meeting on a nation-wide platform with some of the most innovative thinkers and policymakers of our time.”
The NCSL is a bipartisan organization serving legislators and staffs of the nation’s 50 states, commonwealths and territories. State legislators appointed to NCSL receive technical assistance and opportunities to exchange ideas with policymakers regarding the most pressing state issues.
As a member of the Agriculture, Environment and Energy Committee, Senator Downing will provide a unique perspective from the Massachusetts Senate. The committee will address issues and educate Congress and federal agencies as to state concerns regarding legislation, regulations and policies on agriculture, rural development, natural resources and energy. As a member, Downing will identify topics for the committee to explore and share information about options being considered in other states.
