LOCAL ARTISTS ON DISPLAY
Downing Announces Local Art Exhibition Program at District Office
Pittsfield- Local artist and Berkshire native, Joan Palano Ciolfi, often turns to vibrant landscapes as her muse. Her paintings explore the back roads of Lenox, the fields of Williamstown, the skies over Stockbridge and the meandering oxbows of the Housatonic River. As part of an effort to propel the success of local artists and to celebrate thriving artistry in Berkshire, Hampshire and Franklin counties, Senator Benjamin B. Downing (D-Pittsfield) today announces the Local Art Exhibition program recently launched at his district office providing local artists with a platform for displaying their work. Ciolfi is the first local artist featured in the Senator’s Pittsfield office.
“We are blessed with many talented and local artists who capture the spirit of western Massachusetts in inspiring ways,” said Downing. “I’m very happy to provide a place to showcase their talent and increase exposure.”

Oil sticks and brushes are the medium of choice for artist Joan Palano Ciolfi. “Painting allows me to share my passion for color which is essential to my imagery,” says Ciolfi. “My work focuses on the use of color, texture and composition to create both abstract and realistic images of dramatic landscapes, open skies and intricate objects found all around us.”
A selection of her local landscapes, twelve in all, are on display until the end of March and can be seen at Downing’s district office located at 20 Bank Row, Suite 202 in Pittsfield. “It’s fun to take a look at her paintings and try to identify the Berkshire landscape depicted,” said Allison Johnson, Downing’s District Coordinator.
Local artists interested in having their work displayed at Senator Downing’s district office, located in the heart of Pittsfield’s downtown may contact Allison Johnson at (413) 442-4008. Each artist’s works will be on display for a 2 month period and Senator Downing will host a reception at the district office to kick-off each exhibit.
