Pittsfield- State Senator Benjamin B. Downing (D-Pittsfield) is pleased to showcase the artistic talent of H.M. Saffer II, as he displays ten oil paintings in his district office, located at 20 Bank Row in Pittsfield.
“With the use of small brush strokes and vibrant colors, Saffer’s landscape paintings draw the viewer into his artistic expression,” said Downing. “I encourage everyone to stop by my office and view these remarkable paintings.”
A talented artist and current South Berkshire resident, Saffer has displayed his artwork for public viewing since the age of six. After graduating from Temple University, he traveled the globe, honing his skill and displaying his works in Paris, France and Brussels, Belgium. Several years later, Saffer began the study of Japanese brush painting, Sumi-e. He moved to Japan to study with the masters and began to meld Sumi-e techniques with Western styles of painting to form his own unique brand of artistic expression. Saffer has since returned to the United States and has settled in southern Berkshire County. He has instructed in Stockbridge at the Norman Rockwell Museum and IS 183 Art School and at Berkshire Community College.
