Pittsfield- State Senator Benjamin B. Downing (D-Pittsfield) is pleased to announce that six communities and municipal entities in his Berkshire, Hampshire & Franklin Senate District have been selected to receive thorough energy audits from the Energy Audit Program (EAP) administered by the Massachusetts Division of Energy Resources (DOER).
The EAP provides technical assistance for buildings owned and operated by cities, towns, regional school districts and waste water treatment plants across the Commonwealth. The services provided by DOER include detailed energy audits detailing site-specific energy efficiency measures and cost and estimated energy savings. Other DOER services include non-conservation assessments such as savings through better energy procurement practices as well as revenue producing strategies including demand response. This comprehensive assistance provides city and towns with the knowledge they need to save energy, resources and money.
Local recipients of awards in the FY 2008 round are Ashfield, Lenox, Mount Greylock Regional School District, Otis, Pittsfield Wastewater Treatment, and Rowe.
The response this funding round was robust, attracting 112 applications from communities across Massachusetts. With FY 2008 approved funding, DOER will be conducting approximately 40 audits to cities, towns and municipal entities. DOER has pledged to work towards providing assistance to the remaining applicants, as well as the rest of the Commonwealth’s 239 cities and towns.
