PRESS RELEASE- Downing and Guyer Laud Local School Recognized for Exemplary Performance: Becket Washington School Honored as a 2007 Compass School

Pittsfield- State Senator Benjamin B. Downing (D-Pittsfield) and State Representative Denis E. Guyer (D-Dalton) joined the Department of Education’s Massachusetts School and District Accountability System in honoring Becket Washington School for its significant and continuous improvement in student performance. “Education is the foundation for success,” said Senator Downing. “I am so pleased and proud that the Becket Washington School has earned this great honor.” 


Today, 36 schools across the Commonwealth were recognized at a State House ceremony by Department of Education Commissioner David Driscoll as 2007 Compass Schools for their outstanding progress in education.  Recipients of this recognition received a $2,500 cash award.  Becket Washington School Principal Laura Dumouchel, Superintendent Mary Kay McCloskey and district teachers were honored at the State House today for diligence and commitment to excellence in the classroom. 


“The staff and students at Becket Washington School should be very proud of this achievement,” said Guyer.  “This award is a positive way to recognize student improvement across the Commonwealth, and it is exciting to see Becket Washington School working hard to educate our children.”
