BOSTON – State Senator Benjamin B. Downing (D – Pittsfield) announced today that the Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs (EOEA) is now accepting applications for the 2007 Secretary’s Awards for Excellence in Environmental Education.
These awards recognize and support good environmental education in the classroom. Curriculum aimed at raising environmental awareness including recycling projects, nature clubs, water quality monitoring programs, clean-up projects and much more, will be reviewed by the Secretary’s Advisory Group through the end of March. Winners will be notified in April and will be invited to attend an awards ceremony at the State House.
“Western Massachusetts is rich with resources and opportunities to encourage students to become responsible stewards of the environment,” Senator Downing said. “I hope all those who are eligible- programs, teachers, and projects- apply.”
Winners will receive certificates of excellence, honor, or merit. All nominations receiving excellence certificates will receive cash awards payable to municipalities of the winning school program to help support ongoing educational efforts.
Applicants can complete and submit forms online at www.mass.gov/envir/ee or download the application, fill it out, save it and email their completed application to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Deadline for submitting applications is March 16, 2007 at the close of business.
